“Why do I create? As an artist who believes in the constant evolution of creativity, by objective is to always say something and utilize the materials at hand, to stretch my imagination even more. I truly enjoy the challenges of innovation and creativity. There’s no greater excitement than to be presented with a unique opportunity, listen to the stories, see the space, absorb the culture and brainstorm a unique concept from paper to its final brushstroke.
In my family, I am the first American born from a Cuban father and Russian mother, very contrasting cultures. My parents were determined to be Americanized. My earliest memories are an intense experience with an immediate feeling of neglect, obscure perceptions of sound, my mom always under stress, and my father nowhere to be found. Being born into a broken system created a means for constant adaptation; riding the waves of humanity and diversity, where struggle is a daily part of life and clearly inevitable.
I always had the feeling of never being a part of the inner circle. My perception of the world was slightly distorted. Unfortunately, I was born with 4o% hearing loss in both ears. Since birth, there were tons of sounds I was missing out. Let’s just say, I was easily misunderstood and excluded from the circulating, daily functions at home. I was brought into a world of strange noises, different languages, a wide range of music, startling sounds, and hereditary emotions. I evolved to visualize the world within a muffled version of reality…”
